African milk tree is an easy care, thorny succulent with many common names such as friendship cactus, candelabra cactus and good luck cactus. Grow indoors with bright, indirect light, a south or east facing window is ideal. And remember: more light equals more variegation. Repot every 2-3 years into a pot with drainage hole, using succulent growing medium. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings; when watering soak the soil completely and let the pot drain. Do not allow the pot to sit in water. African milk tree can reach 6-9 feet but can be pruned to prevent top heaviness. While having air purifying and several medicinal qualities, this plant has a toxic sap to humans and pets.
