Myrmephytum selebicum or Ant Plant is a unique variety of plant! It's base is hollow with a sticky sap that makes for a perfect 'ant partner' in the jungle. But no worries - it won't attract ants into your home! Thriving in bright, indirect light (harsh direct sun will scorch the leaves), Ant Plant will not do well in low-light conditions. This succulent-like plant doesn't like soggy soil so water when 50-75" of the soil is dry. Be sure to water the soil away from the caudex (the bulb-like base) as it's prone to rot. A humidity lover, Ant Plant would appreciate a pebble tray but avoid misting or place near a humidifier to protect the caudex. Fertilize once in the spring and once in the summer with a general purpose fertilizer, at half strength. Be sure to fertilize into damp soil as the interesting plant can be sensitive to fertilizer. Toxic to pets.
