Often confused with the more pungent, white-flowered 'True Greek' variety, common oregano, also called wild oregano or wild marjoram, has a milder flavor, and is the traditional variety for medicinal use. Leaves can be used fresh or dried in pizza sauce, pastas and salsa. The pretty pink to lavender flowers appear from midsummer to fall. Perennial in USDA zones 5 and warmer. Fairly drought tolerant and deer resistant. The packet sows up to 88 feet.
