Fishbone cactus is also commonly called zig-zag cactus, ricrac cactus or orchid cactus. We love fishbone cactus for its ability to survive in normal indoor light conditions without direct sun and high humidity. Since fishbone cactus love humidity, try in a bathroom! Bright, indirect light - north or east facing windows. Water when the top 2-3" of soil drys to the touch. Let your water set for 24 hours before watering or use room temperature distilled water. Repot with a well draining mix of 1 part succulent/cacti soil, 1 part perlite, 1 part coco coir and 1 part orchid bark. Thrives in warm, humid locations. Keep indoor temperatures between 60-80℉ with 60% humidity. Flowers appear at night in late summer-fall and last a day or two - a special treat for sure! To promote flowering, place in cooler temperatures from winter to late spring, resume regular care then fertilize in summer with a high-potassium fertilizer for tomatoes. Pet Friendly when nibbled but the spines could do damage if a lot is ingested.
