Philodendron ‘Red Cardinal’ has blackish green broad oval leaves. When new leaves emerge they are initially a burgundy red and as they mature they become a dark green to almost black. Water when the soil dries out by checking with your finger up to the first knuckle and set near a window for bright, indirect light. Fertilize monthly in spring and summer and every six to eight weeks in fall and winter with a balanced indoor houseplant fertilizer. Slow growth and small leaf size is the plant’s way of telling you that it isn’t getting enough fertilizer. Pale new leaves usually indicate that the plant isn’t getting enough calcium and magnesium, which are essential micro-nutrients for philodendrons. **Toxic to pets**
