Amaryllis hippeastrum 'Papilio (or Butterfly)' is an unusual, exotic beauty that reaches 16 to 20 inches tall. 'Papilio' features large (up to 6") flowers with 3 petals and 3 sepals, resembling a butterfly or star shape. The variegated flowers have pale cream petals with a chartreuse throat all delicately striped in deep red/maroon; it's such a beautiful combination that it is easy to see how this plant got its common name Butterfly Amaryllis! Your patience will be rewarded in 6 to 10 weeks after planting as the bulb will produce 2 to 3 striking, elegant blooms per stalk. A great holiday gift, this uncommon and striking variety will wow anyone lucky enough to receive this special bulb! Planting Instructions: Put 2" of potting soil in a pot at least 6" in diameter. Set amaryllis bulb in the pot and spread out the roots (be cautious not to damage roots). Gently pack more potting soil between the roots and around the bulbs covering 2/3 of the bulb and leaving 1/3 of the bulb above the soil line. Provide plenty of bright light. Watering: Water once with lukewarm water when you first pot your amaryllis, then sparingly until you see the tip of the bud appear. Then water once a week being careful not to over water.
